"Beit Jamal Monastery" Israel Things to Do Tip by Nathalie_B

Israel Things to Do: 781 reviews and 1,392 photos

This small monastery is known for two major things: Ancient mosaics and wine.
In the monastery's tiny store you can find Cremisan wine, which originally comes from Betlehem. Some years ago it was still possible to travel all the way to this Holy city and taste the wine, nowadays, your only possibility is to go to Beit Jamal. Don't expect a huge, fancy store with wine tasting and the whole ceremony. What you'll find is a small stand with wines and even a smaller shelf with olive oil, carefully guarded by an old grandpa that runs the store and shouts at his customers in many foreign languages :)
The store is located on the left side of the main entrance to the monastery, visit it on your way out, after completing the tour of the property. (See next tip)
