Allegedly, Gozo is the island where Odysseus stranded and was kept by the beautiful nymph Callypso. Callypso Cave is located a few kilometers from the picturesque village Xaghra, above a green and fertile plateau on Gozo. The bay is called Ramla Bay and one of the few
with a beautiful sandy beach. The cave itself is less spectacular: For a few cents you can
get a candle from locals and then climb down the holes. The cave itself is quite high above
sea level - for critics an indicator that it may NOT have been the real Callypso cave. (Another
option is the Odysseus Cave on Mljet Island, Croatia.)
