Sarasota Things to Do: 129 reviews and 171 photos

This is a nature reserve with several parts

The Pioneer area at CMNC consists of a museum of pioneer history, pioneer cabin, blacksmith shop, working sugar cane mill and, one of our major achievements, the restored Tatum House.

The Museum houses historic objects, mostly from the Crowley family and the Old Miakka area including: household furnishings, tools, and items from the original Old Miakka general store and post office.

The oldest surviving schoolhouse in Sarasota County, the Tatum Ridge Schoolhouse was built circa 1905

Self-guided nature trail winds through CMNC property from high and dry pine flatwoods, through the shady oak hammock, over the Maple Branch swamp, and out to the edge of the expansive Tatum Sawgrass Marsh along the Myakka River. The wide trails offer easy and pleasant walking conditions that are enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Visitors are provided with a booklet for the self-guided trail that details much of the native flora and fauna. For pictures and descriptions of the birds, animals, flora and fauna found in the park
