"Whale Watching" Maui Things to Do Tip by H-TownJourneyman

From basically December through April, it is "whale season" in Maui. This refers to the hundreds of Humpback whales that migrate from the northern Pacific Ocean and reside during this time off the coast of West Maui. Many days you can see the whales breaching, which is when they rise up out of the water, and splash back in, from beaches on West Maui. But many sailing companies on the island offer a great alterntive to viewing these amazing creatures from afar. You can take a chartered boat out to watch them up close. It is one of my favorite things I have done while in Maui, so incredible to see the whales breaching right in front of you! Most of the chartered trips are not terribly expensive, usually around $50-70 for a basic trip out, including a light meal. When we were on the boat, they dipped an underwater microphone in so you could here to whales communicating with each other. Highly recommended while on Maui!
