Hands down the best casual dining experience in Barcelona. Located near the Barceloneta metro stop amidst a "bazar" of electronics shops, Can Paixano, better known as La Xampagneria, specializes in delicious bubbly cava. And it's cheap. Really cheap. Push through the crowd to the counter and order a bottle of rosat for 2.80. If you're eating inside, you're going to need to order two sandwiches for every bottle, but fear not, they're just as cheap and just as tasty. Go for the chorizo sandwich or my personal favorite, pollo con cebollas, queso, y pimientos. It's not on the menu, but you can mix and match whatever you see up on the walls and it's sure to be greasy and delicious. Then enjoy! Just be aware you'll be packed in there like sardines as you eat, which, in my opinion, really just adds to the atmosphere. If you just want the cava, go to the back counter and order a few bottles, at 1.75 each they're cheaper than you could get at the front counter, you can avoid the crowd that's sure to have gathered. And as an added bonus, it's cold and ready to enjoy.

Favorite Dish: Pollo con cebolla, queso y pimientos (Chicken sandwich with cheese, peppers, and onions)

Address: Reina Cristina, 7
Price Comparison: least expensive
Directions: Get off at Barceloneta and walk towards Port Vell. After crossing a small plaza, you will see a block of electronics stores. Reina Cristina is right in the middle. Can Paixano will be on the right, halfway down. Look for a crowd.
