Favorite thing: Not exactly a Favourite Thing about Cyprus, but.......
When calling home, use one of the many public call boxes. You will need to purchase a phonecard, which are available from any of the kiosks or corner shops.
These come in £3,£5 and £10 denominations. I have found that a £5 card is sufficient to make several calls home to the UK over the space of a two week holiday.
