"Visit the Church of the Rich Claires" Eglise Notre-Dame aux Riches Claires Tip by DanielF

The Church of the Rich Claires is surrounded by narrow lanes and has no adjacent square from where to get a general view of the building. It is therefore difficult to take a picture of it. However, if you go to the nearby Au Lion's courtyard, you will be able to appreciate the proportions of the church in a better way.

The nuns that used to live in the convent were called Rich Claires because of the stipend they were allowed monthly. This distinguished them from the Poor Claires, who were forced to rely on alms.

The church is Baroque and, ironically, having survived to the 1695 bombing, was ravaged by a fire in 1989.
