Breakfast on the llanai at Aloha House
by diver-x

We found the Aloha House on (vacation rentals by owner). Joan, the owner, was very easy to deal with and easy to reach by email and phone. She responded quickly and had no problem with our last-minute reservation only 2 weeks before our departure. The house was homey, with plenty of room for 2 couples and one child. There wasn't any AC, but the ceiling fans kept us cool at night.

Unique Qualities: The house was in a residential area, about a 10 minute drive from the touristy areas of Kailua-Kona, and less than a 5 minute drive from a snorkel beach where we swam with at least a half dozen turtles. There was a TV and DVD player, a full working kitchen and a spacious lanai, where we BBQed and ate our meals. You could see a little patch of blue ocean through the trees in back and though the description said the beach was just a few minutes walk, I think it's more of a few minutes drive. The rate in 2005 was$140/night for 3 nights plus taxes and an $85 cleaning fee. Much cheaper than 2 hotel rooms and much more comfortable, though we didn't have the convenience of being right on the beach.

Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Aloha House is about 10 minutes south of downtown Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai'i.
Price: US$120-180
Theme: Other
