This little house, so unusual for Warsaw, can be found in the busy Pulawska Street next to the monument to Jan Matejko. It looks best if viewed from the road with its nicely shaped windows but there is too much traffic in Pulawska to risk stepping there to take a picture. In the 18th century the house was part of a large suburban residence of Polish aristocrats, Izabela and Stanislaw Lubomirski, which consisted of a large villa, spacious gardens and a few summer pavillions. The Flemish bower, now known as the Moresque Cottage (Domek Mauretanski), is one of them. The only other buildings that remain from the magnificent complex, which then bore the name of Mon Coteau (my hill), are: the villa called Palacyk Szustra, the Neo-Gothic tower with a dovecot and the small park on the escarpment called Morskie Oko (the sea's eye).
The Moresque Cottage houses a gallery of silver jewellery, worth a visit if you are looking for a present.
Address: 55, Pulawska St.
Directions: Take any tram going along Pulawska St., get off at Madalinskiego St.
