Daytrip - Anadolu Kavagi, Istanbul: 17 reviews and 33 photos
Yoros Kalesi is a ruined fortress located in Anadolukavagi on the Asian side of the Bosphorus near the entrance to the Black Sea. Yoros, along with the fortress that had been located at Rumelikavagi on the European side, were both originally constructed by the Byzantines in the 12th century to control traffic through the Bosphorus. The Genoese were given control of the area and the fortresses during the decline of the Byzantine Empire following the sack of Constantinople in 1204 by the Crusaders. Eventually after Sultan Mehmet II conquered Constantinople in 1453, the Genoese lost power in the region, and the fortress, as well as the area, were taken taken over by the Turks. Today the fortification of Yoros is still relatively intact. It stands atop the hill above Anadolukavagi, providing some incredible views of the spot where the Bosphorus and Black Sea meet. You can drive right up to it if you have a vehicle, or you can take a ferry boat to Anadolukavagi, and make the climb up the hill to Yoros.
Address: Anadolu Kava?? Mh., 34825 ?stanbul, Turkey
Directions: Located on the hill above Anadolukavagi, where the Bosphorus joins the Black Sea
