The coastal waters and rivers of Northern Queensland do have another dangerous inhabitant: the estuarine or saltwater crocodile. They are the largest crocodiles on this planet (up to 7m long) and are especially aggressive. If you are visiting a crocodile area (they are protected btw) stay away from the water's edge!
I just saw one during my visits when I went on one of those crocodile cruises on the Daintree river. Quite a scary sight.
