One of Ghent's hallmark towers, St. Nicholas Church's construction began in 1200 but took nearly two centuries to complete. Set in the Korenmarkt it leads to St. Bavo's Cathedral and forms the true center of the medieval town center. The area was once the central market place but now houses cafes, restaurants and numerous shops for modern day consumers.
