Kenawa is a name of a small island not far from the Komodo National Park. It's about 1 hour by boat from Labuan Bajo. There's no community living in this island apart from the staff and off course the guests.
There are about 15 bungalows in this island, all facing the beach. Don't expect fancy facilities.. it's all very basic. There's no fresh water supply, it has to be brought in by boat from Labuan Bajo. Therefore you only get very limited fresh water supply. The staff will deliver fresh water once a day at around 5-6 pm, each bungalow gets 2 jerry-cans or about 20lt, only enough to take off salt from your body. In each bungalow, they also provide 2 small jerry-cans to be used for taking sea water from the beach (this is for your other toilet needs!).
The staff here are very friendly but they only have limited staff. They only have one staff in the restaurant that do all the cooking, taking order, etc. Make sure that you arrive early at the restaurant ahead of the other guests. Otherwise you will have to wait for a long time to get your food ready. But I have to say that the food she cooks is really good. Don't forget also to have the fresh fish (fried or grilled). It's very nice as the fish is very fresh, caught alive from under the jetty less than 1 hour before and it's usually still alive 20 minutes before it's served on your table!
With all the basic and simplicity of this island I really enjoy my stay there... it's very relaxing... and definitely will try to go there again!
