"Telegraph Hill" Neighborhoods Tip by Muya
Neighborhoods, San Francisco: 22 reviews and 62 photos
It used to be called “Goat Hill”, but got its actual name around 1850 when, first a signal station, then later an electric telegraph was build on top of it (at the spot where Coit Tower now stands). This system was used to signal the nature of the ships entering the Golden Gate.
Its Eastern side was used as a quarry and dynamite was used for extractions.
Telegraph Hill is the highest point of North Beach, and it’s really steep to get there. But the view you get from the top is so rewarding ! :-) The panorama stretches from Bay Bridge to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. If you reach the top from Filbert Street and its steps ornated with flowers, you’ll get one of the nicest view on the Bay.
Address: Various locations.
