State of Queensland Off The Beaten Path: 68 reviews and 150 photos

Cardwell is a relaxed seaside town, great place to get away from the crowds. It's one of North Queensland's oldest towns, established in 1864. The local museum has lots of exhibits from that time.
Main occupation in Cardwell seemed to be fishing from the jetty, but there are also some good walks to be done in the nearby Murray Falls State Park. The beach is nice, but it's not recommended to sunbath there as it is also a favourite hangout for crocs (beach being narrow and mangroves being close).
The town is also the gateway to rugged Hinchinbrook Island.
