Taxis in Saigon should not charge you more than necessary. Most taxis have meters installed and you should insist the driver turn it on when you get in.

Otherwise, a ride around the city center shouldn't cost more than US$1 or 16,000 VND e.g Ben Thanh market to Sheraton Hotel ~ 1-2km. If you go further than that, insist on the meter
