Austin is famous for it's live music and Sixth Street in downtown Austin is the best place to enjoy hearing it. Seven blocks of East 6th from Congress Avenue to Interstate 35 is Austin's entertainment district. The district also encompasses E. 5th and 7th Streets as well as various cross-streets. Here in the heart of the live music scene you will find numbeous clubs, bars and music venues.

Sixth Street was one called Pecan Street. Many of the historic buildings along the street date back to the 1800s and early 1900s. There are seedy spots here, including tatoo parlors, but also elegant places like the Driskill Hotel.

Austin's live music runs the gamut from jazz, blues, and country to rock, hip-hop, and derivations of these and other genres. The restaurants along Sixth Street are just as diverse. Local favorites include chili, ribs, and Tex-Mex. You'll also find steak, seafood, cajun-cooking and more.
