Biscuiterie Dandoy: "Get your supply of Speculoos" Brussels Shopping Tip by DanielF

This is certainly the land of chocolates, but there are many other candies that a tourist can buy as a souvenir or as a gift for friends and family.

Speculoos are the famous biscuits with a strong butter and caramel flavour which are typical from the Low Countries. Their name comes from the latin word speculum (mirror), as they usually depict one historic or olkloric character on one of their sides.

One of the most traditional places where speculoos can be purchased is the Biscuiterie Dandoy, on Butter Street, just off the Market Square. The store has been operating here since the XIX century and with its old-fashioned decor and the high quality of the products, it is a great pleasure to shop in.

What to buy: Apart from speculoos (of which a few of them in giantic size are displayed in the window), the biscuiterie specialises in grachtbrood or ditch bread, what the French have wrongly translated as Pain à la grècque, which is how they are mostly referred to in Brussels.
