Khlong Sen Seb - longtail boat

We stayed in the Prince Palace Hotel and had a lovely view of the city and Khlong Sen Seb far beneath us with longtail boats coming and going ‘every’ minute. There was a pier just outside our hotel and we made a couple of boat trips.

The first time we were completely disorientated and took a longtail in the wrong direction. At the last stop, when everybody was disembarking we noticed our fault and had to go back. This time we passed Jim Thomson’s House (also with a pier) and stopped at Tha Pratunam, very close to the World Trade Centre and some other shopping malls.
Our second trip was to the Golden Mount, just one stop away from our hotel and now in the right direction.

If you know where to go and disembark it is an easy way of travelling between the eastern parts (Sukhumvit or Siam Square) and the western parts of the city with Golden Mount, Democracy Monument and Grand Palace and Wat Pho not far away. It was great fun embarking on this boat with lots of Thai people, crammed on wooden seats and leaving the piers very quickly for a trip on the khlong with views of the houses along the canal.

These boat rides are extremely cheap; we paid both times 8 Baht. Just tell the conductor where you want to go and give him some Bahts and you are OK. Boats are coming every few minutes, but are only in service during daylight.
