"A beauty and Southern Facade" Top 5 Page for this destination Biltmore Estate Tip by matcrazy1
Biltmore Estate, Asheville: 77 reviews and 216 photos
The smallest, southern facade of the Biltmore House has monumental, double, symmetrical, straight stairs leading to a nice terrace covered by roof made of natural, green, climbing plants (see picture 4). The almost empty large flat area in front of the House facade (see picture 2) needs some more work in my opinion. More flowers or grass, more sculptures (there are four) and maybe a pond with a fountain and ducks or swans would liven up this dead place. Well, I liked a sculpture of a beautiful woman and a round, old fountain (see picture 3). The fountain didn't work probably for years.
WORK IN BILTMORE
I got to know that it took 438 employees in 1894 to keep the estate running. Today, more than 1,500 people (!) work for Biltmore. It's an impressive number! It must cost a lot. Does the Biltmore Estate make profits now? I don't know but the entrance fee is more and more expensive. I paid $39 in October 2004, in October 2007 it costs $44, in 2010 it may cost $50 or more ???
