Oct 2006 we mad a brief return to Rhodes town - managaing to escape the rain in the south!
We spent the morning at the ancient city of Lalyssos - just 10km from Rhodes Town on the hill of Filerimos - and really enjoyed the site and the views. Best to visit with a car as its a good 5km walk from Triana, including a relentless zig-zag road up - glad I wasn't walking!

The main building here is the Church of our Lady withits unusual hexagonal chambers - originally built by those Knights of St John but restored in the 20th century. In front of the church is a sunkenbaptismal font Also here is a two-storey abbots's quarter linked to a colonaded courtyard with monasti cells. Many other older ruins lie scaterred on the site too so you can spend a couple of hours here. Small cafe available for refreshments up here.
