Biltmore Estate, Asheville: 77 reviews and 216 photos
On the second and third floor of the Biltmore House I saw maybe 20 rooms including seperate bedrooms of Mr and Mrs. Vanderbilt which to be honest didn't impress me. The same I can say about the bowling alley which was installed 1895 as one of the first ones in private houses.
The quite large indoor swimming pool (empty now) in the basement looks interesting and is equipped with underwater lighting which had to be novelty in the end of the 19th century. I also liked the longitudinal and large living room with three impressive fireplaces along the wall covered by priceless Flemish tapestries from the 16th century.
The newly restored Fourth Floor of the Biltmore House opened in 2005, a year after my visit. So, you may see more now: Observatory, Architectural Model Room, Servants? Hall, Servants? Bedrooms, Linen Closet, Closet, Housemaid?s Closet, and Servants? Bathroom. To see more of the house, try out one of Rooftop or Behind?the?Scenes Tours ($15 per person). A room-by-room Audio Guide to the Biltmore House is available only in English and costs $7 per person.
