The French have been motivated to make the Louvre thr finrst museum in the world. The architectural work of Pei include much more than the unusual Pyramids and the unifying pool and fountain. The largest pyramid lets in light for the consourse below. This is more than a ticket area (which was badly needed). The lobby has accesses to the various exhibit wings, a mall (which is a secret access to the entries), special areas ( a fine restaurant, museum shops, working areas and more). The smaller pyramids give light to and overlie entresols and other glass overlights cover courtyards which functionas exhibit areas that hold outdoor sculptures that have been rescued from the pollution of the city (like the Marly Horses from the Pl. de la Concorde).
