Nørrebro Bryghus: "Their beer is good food, and their food is better!" Top 5 Page for this destination Nørrebro Bryghus Tip by yooperprof
Nørrebro Bryghus, Copenhagen: 4 reviews and 6 photos
Isn't it great how the beer revolution of the last twenty years has inspired a gastonomical revolution as well? I mean, with talented chefs now using rich, complex, and fortifying beers in a variety of different ways. In many places, brewers and restauranteers proudly use local produce, local suppliers. The Nørreport Bryghus (brewery) in Copenhagen is an outstanding representitive of this hopeful trend, a model example of one of my favorite mottos: Think Globally, but Drink Locally (as long as it's not one of the big evil brewers).
I came here with a Great Dane VT-er, Razmataac, and Thomas (Duplo), another Dane (but living in Greenland) who I've met through another internet site. It was a great evening with spirited conversation, tasteful and bold beverages, and expertly prepared and artfully presented food. Everything was at a very high standard: the four selections in my "flight" of beers, the salmon appetizer, the outstanding roast lamb entree, and the berry compote dessert. You won't leave hungry!
But do bring your credit cards, or make sure you have plenty of cash! This is Denmark, prices are Scandinavian, and as of January 2007, the exchange rate was painful for this American. But no one comes to Copenhagen to save money, right? And you can save money the following night with a can of Tuborg and a sausage from a street vendor.
(Servers do an excellent job of explaining the beers and the cuisine that they match - in both Danish and English.)
