Kedah has been known as the rice bowl of Malaysia. You can see rice fields almost everywhere you turn.

There are no fences around rice fields. There are bunds along the irrigation canals and so you can just park your car and walk along the bund to take a closer look.

If you are lucky, you can see the planting of rice saplings, manually or by machine as well as the harvesting of rice using a special kniffe by hand or by machine. Plough of the rice fields are down by water buffaloes or by machines too.

There are scarecrows or strings of cans that makes noise to scare away feeding birds when the rice stalks are full and ripe.
