Mt Tamalpais, or Mt Tam as locals call it, stands 2,571 feet. It's part of the Coastal Range. It towers over the rest of Marin County, affording the visitor the finest view of San Francisco Bay and the coast of any point that I've visited. While it's often cloud-covered, it's worth going up there when the weather is clear. The view is breathtaking, as these photos will attest.

From San Francisco, follow Highway 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Stinson Beach exit. Then follow the signs to the mountain. It's worth it.
