"Downtown: Obelisk devoted to Indepedence" National Independence Monument Tip by hydronetta

Next to Sule Pagoda is the Maha Bandoola Park named after the national hero who stood up against the british colonial occupation. The park is dominated by a massive obelisk rising 48m from the ground, surrounded by 5 smaller columns and bronze lions. The obelisk symbolizes Myanmar and the smaller ones the 5 partially autonomous states. The whole structure is the "Monument to Indepedence". As there was an entrance fee to get into the park, we decided just to make some photos from the entrance...

Address: Mahabandoola Park.
Directions: Southeast of Sule Paya, and North of Merchant Street.
