Mount Washington is certainly New England's mount famous mountain, standing at 6,288 feet it is the tallest mountain in the northeast US.

Mount Washington is known for having some of the worst weather ever recorded in the world including winds of 231 mph in 1934 and hurricane-force winds an average of 110 days each year. The peak of the mountain has hosted a weather observatory off an on since 1870.

Ascent can be done on the cog railway or the auto road. This is also a great hiking area, with the Appalachian Trail crossing the summit. Skiing Mount Washington is popular each Memorial Day, as are the road race (running not driving) and the bicycle race.
