Italians are very crafty with tourists. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEEN OVERCAHRGED ASK FOR THR SCONTRINO, (THE BILL), IT IS ITALIAN LAW THAT ALL SHOPS RESTAURANTS GIVE YOU THIS OR THEY WILL BE CHARGED A HEAVY FINE. Also make sure that the iteams on your bill are clearly maked, if you still have trouble tell them that you will call thr finazaria police.
It is true that if you sit outside you will be charged more. When eating at a restaurant always ask what the charge is for sitting outside and what the sevice charge is. The average service charge is about 5 euros. Italians are friendly, and will appreciate it if you try and speak in Italian. Un caffe is an expresso, un caffe con latte is coffe with milk, macchiato is an expresso with a dash of milk. The best thing to do in Rome is get lost and stay of the tourist walks.
