Day 9 : Melbourne

Leaving the Parliament area behind, we walked along Collins Street towards Swanston Street.

Along Collins Street there were some interesting buildings like the big Rialto Towers (253 metres high), Scots Church and the magnificent Regent Theatre.

After a short lunch in the shadow of St Paul?s Cathedral (see restaurant tips) we continued our journey towards the Yarra River.

Like this we arrived at the Federation Square. This is the newest open space in Melbourne, and it remembers the 100 anniversary of the Australian states. The architecture of the buildings surrounding this square looks very modern. Over here you find a 100m big glass atrium with view on the Yarra River, an amphitheatre combined with shops and bars and restaurants, the Ian potter centre, a museum for modern art and the Australian centre for Moving Image.

Address: Flinders Street / Saint Kilda Street
Directions: In between Flinders Street and Yarra River (near Flinders station)
