"Things To Do On A Rainy Day #1" Heineken Brewery Tip by johngayton
Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam: 97 reviews and 136 photos
If, like myself, you enjoy getting a good immersion of the history and culture of a place but feel uncomfortable if separated for too long from a bar, then the Heineken Brewery/Experience has the necessary combinations all under the same roof. Although the brewery is no longer a working one it having been transformed into a rather clever piece of corporate marketing masquerading as a multimedia museum, it still makes for an interesting visit.
For your 10 Euro admission you get the history of the Heineken operation, along with the nuts and bolts of the brewing process, with static displays, short films and a couple of interesting interactive "rides" (for want of a better word). The museum is set out so that you can experience it at your own pace with a couple of strategically placed bars to put your feet up and sample the product (included in the admission) and you get a little freebie souvenir as you leave. There is also the inevitable museum shop which may or may not be of interest.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) from 10 am until 6 pm and you should allow a couple of hours to go round, mornings tend to be quieter than afternoons. Note that under 18's are only admitted with adults and that group visits should be pre-arranged.
The website below has a good intoductory "Flash" presentation without giving too much away.
Address: Stadhouderskade 78
Directions: Trams 16, 24 and 25 frfom Centraal Station all stop at Heinekenplein, which is obviously where the brewery is.
