Want to visit "the Center of the World," this VTer did -- or so called by the builder of this “Persian-style house and 250 acres of romantically- designed grounds” high on a hill overlooking the Hudson River. This really is a very special treat if you love art. The view from the Olana the estate of the famous American artist, Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900), is a view back into the history of the Hudson River School of Art. Frederic Church who’s home and studio was set up at Olana because in his mind the view he saw from his studio was “a personal vision of harmony between man and the American landscape” - a "perfect Eden of picturesque beauty and tto CHURCH the center of the world. Olana is considered one of the most important historical Artistic residences in the United States and is now a state historic park and a National Historic Landmark.
Hours of Operation: April - May, open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last tour starts at 4:00 p.m.). June - mid-October, open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (last tour starts at 5:00 p.m.). October 1 - 15, open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last tour starts at 4:00 p.m.). The 250 acre grounds are open from 8:00 a.m. through sunset year around.
Admission Fees: Adults: $3.00, Seniors: $2.00, Children 5-12, $1.00. Children under 5: free.

Directions: New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 21/Catskill. Follow signs for Route 23 East and Hudson. Cross Rip Van Winkle Bridge and bear right onto Route 9G South. Olana is on left one mile south of Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
