We saw these penguin warning sign on our drive on the west coast of the South Island around Punakaiki . Punakaiki is the gateway to the dramatic limestone country of the Paparoa National Park. It lies halfway between Greymouth and Westport on one of the most spectacular coastal highways in New Zealand.

We didn't see any penguins , I think it would be a dusk they would be spotted making their way back to their nests.
