This art form originated from Northern Vietnam making Hanoi a good choice of a venue to go and see it, it has been in exsistence (the art form) for 1000 years.
The performance is in a square tank full of murky water, where the puppeteers stand behind a bamboo screen and operate the puppets.
Music is provided by a band dressed in traditonal custume, singing traditional song and using traditional instruments.
Theres fire breathing dragons (complete with fireworks), flute playing boy riding a buffalo, a fisherman battling with his prey and the list goes on.
The water puppets are fun to watch, a wonderful theatrical show. If you have children this is a must see.
If you wish to see the puppets on a weekend night it may pay to book the day before as they can get sold out.
Cost 20,000VND - 40,000VND - Higher price gets you the best seat and a music tape
