While we were in Reykjavik we made a trip with the Puffin Express and I can really recommend it as a fun trip and it gives you really good views of the Puffins on the little rocky island of Akurey. Akurey island is a tiny island which is completely vegetated and has a hummocky ladscape.
The trip can be booked at Puffin Express in Reykjavik harbour it cost us ISK 2,500 each for the hour trip.
Puffins are the most common bird in Iceland. It has a population of about 10 million birds. Puffins are monogamous throughout its life. The birds meet up every year by the same nesting hole which can extend for up to 1,5 metres into the ground. The birds come at the beginning of April and stay on the island until around the middle of August. There are thought to be about 15 thousand pairs nesting on the island each year.
