It was a kind of relief when we reached Kings Canyon Resort after 220 km’s of gravel road through the Red Centre. Coming back into civilisation and the more or less luxury of this resort in the middle of the red dunes. Although we couldn’t find any luxury at all in the ‘Desert Oaks Café’ and even our first cappuccino that day didn’t taste at all.
From the car park behind the café started a board walk over the sand dunes to the Carmichael Crag Lookout. And in spite of the temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, we were happy to be able to stretch our legs after hours of driving.
From the lookout we had a fantastic view of Carmichael Crag, the southern edge of the George Gill Range, with desert oaks in front and a fantastic ‘photo sky with clouds’ above the scenery.
The place is famous for the colours at sunset, but we enjoyed it also.
