The Kasbah is an easy trip up to the top of Ave Mohammed V and to the right of the Medina, up in the northern tip of Rabat. The area doesn't have a whole lot going on for tourists maybe but is one of the oldest bits of Rabat and worth a quick visit.

The main sights here are the Andalucian Garden, which closes at sunset and is in fact more a French colonial invention than an Andaluz import; the Plateforme du Semaphore, which is a large open area at the furthest edge of the Kasbah from where you can hang out, watch surfers and view the sun set over nearby Sale; and the huge Bab Oudaia, the gate at the main entrance to the Kasbah.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Kasbah entrance is the main focus for touts and faux guides in Rabat. Ignore anyone who tells you that the area is forbidden or that you must have a guide to show you round and try not to be drawn into conversation. Not only is it not true, but also the place is really so small, consisting of one main street, that a guide wouldn't even be of use. It's all very clean and manageable, quite a world away from the Fes medina.

Lonely Planet notes that there are a couple of 'art galleries' in the Kasbah. Well, there is a poster and card shop masquerading as gallery on the main Rue Jamaa, but the only true gallery I found was a temporary exhibition of contemporary textiles at the main entrance, Bab Oudaia since we were too late to make it to the Andalucian Gardens and the museum in there.
