Bk Bintang is a great area for the shopaholics (like me)... shopping centre, after shopping centre... you never know where one ends, and the next begins!!! Oh yeah, and a tip for Aussies... watch your bum... the salespeople follow you around the shop so close, that if you were to suddenly stop... they would crash into you!! They follow so closely behind (hence wathcing your bum)! It's like this is most of Asia (from what I have experienced so far), but this to them, is service. At first I thought they were tailing us, thinking we were going to steal something... but that's just what they do... follow you closely around the shop. Mind you they don't say anything, just follow VERY closely behind you. It's nothing terrible, just a tip for you to know!!
And as for the people who say that you can't bargain in shops... they are wrong! You can bargain for anything in Malaysia... all the shops we went into along Bk Bintang... we bargained and always came out with a cheaper price!!! so it's worth it (if you have the courage!!!)
There is also an abundance of hotels along Bkt Bintang... ranging from the dingey 2.5 stars... to the classy 5 stars!!! So a great area to stay no matter what your budget!!!
And at night this place is alive. There are various courtyards filled with cafe's and restaurants... plenty of places to eat (even McDonalds)! We ate at Planet Hollywood on our first night, and were that satisfied with the friendly service, that we kept going back every night!! (actually, ate Pizza Hut the first time we went, and got food poisoning... so stayed away from that place the rest of the time!!). But yeah, also plenty of coffee shops in Bukit Bintang too!!
There are also some great night spots... a trendy bar near the North end of Bukit Bintang, a bowling alley (behind the Federal Hotel), and plenty of small bars around the area too!!
Bukit Bintang is well worth the visit in both daytime and nightime, as there are plenty of things to do!! There is also a monorail station conveniently located on the street too!!
