  Neptune Fountain
by Ekaterinburg

This fountain is certainly a focal point in Dlugi Targ even though it is not in the centre of the area. This is because it was not just a fountain but also a well, one of several along this route. Because of it's dominant position however this was the one that was most decorated and became the most popular. The statue on top is of the god of the seas, Neptune, always a revered figure in this maritime city. Around the water basin of the sculpture are other sea creatures with Polish eages on the wrought iron surrounds. Water of any sort seems to act as a magnet and this fountain is always surrounde by people. We enjoyed standing next to it and happily took each other's photos like good little tourists.
Behind the Neptune Fountain, the white building with green windows is Artus Court, formerly a sort of Chamber of Commerce for the merchants of Gdansk, and now a museum. Again, this building is an eclectic mix'em-gather'em of stylistic elements. The large gothic windows are impressive .
