"Sierra Nevada - La Veleta" Spain Off The Beaten Path Tip by ant1606

The Sierra Nevada and Alpujarra ranges lie east of Granada. Getaway from the city summer heat takes about 30 minutes or more on the nicely paved road leading to the winter sports resort and village of Sierra Nevada, located at about 2,500 m elevation. From here, the banned road would proceed further near Pico de Veleta, topping 3,394 m elevation and only second to the Mulhacen in the whole Iberic peninsula. Too bad time on our side did not allow to take a hike up there, we just enjoyed the impressive bird's eye views over Andalucia.
