Obviously only on Sundays, an hour or so out of KK and you go thru rice fields etc...stop at a rice mill to see how that works, admittedly its only a basic one, and there is also a view of Mount kinabalu as well. When you arrive at Kota Belud you walk down the hill into the market area where the Bajau people come to buy and sell their fruit/veges and crafts. The local horsemen also come in wearing their national costume. Early in the morning apparently they have their water buffalo sales. (But we didnt see this). They have food stalls also, and we tried the banana fritters, we got about 10 for 50 cents australian. Also tried the sugar and nut cake that they cooked in front of you. Beautiful. The sights and smells here are great and you really are mixing with the locals. Definitely worth seeing and gets you away into the local community.
Address: Kota Belud
Directions: Great question...we did a tour from Tanjung Aru, was cheap.
