Kennicott is an abandoned town with lots of old mine buildings. Thanks to these buildings it became a highlight for tourist at the end of the 80s. The area is now a desigated National Historic Landmark and the National Park Service acquired much of the land within the Kennecott Mill Town in 1998.
Efforts are now being made to stabilize many of the remaining structures that you will see while in Kennecott. The Kennecott Visitor Center has daily ranger programs, and local businesses give glacier and history tours.
If you’re not on a tour, you have to stay out of the mine buildings but you can have a look from outside. That's what i did.
