In September, 2004, on my way to Loboc, I was fascinated with the sign "Home of Bohol's Largest Python in Captivity". I asked my friend/guide to take me to there. I was brought to the cage with a sleeping python. there were also a bird cage with six birds. I got some information about the python and it has no name even then from the bulletin board. I slipped a bill into a donation box.

More than 2 years passed, I was wondering what happened to the python. I asked my friend to take me back there. I could sense that things have changed as just when we passed through the small road, we were asked to pay P5.00 parking fee. When we arrived at the house, there were around 4 vans parked. There was a souvenir shop and an old lady requiring us to pay P20.00 donation..

I saw another souvenir shop. Then, people were gathered around a big cage and there it was, the python. She now has a name and she is a female python. She is sharing the cage with 2 lemurs. A lady acted as a snake tamer to the delight of the peole wathing her and the python. I looked around and saw that the there are three bird cages. The old bird cages had been expanded with more birds added and two new ones were constructed. There were additional cages which housed a monitor lizard and three more snakes.

I went to the bulletin board and it hasn't changed so much. The old pictures were still there. It now has a business permit and a business name "Phython Sanctuary and so on and so on"

For some reason, I was not happy with what I saw, the whole thing had been commercialized. The second souvenir shops have pictures of the python for sale and even sell T-shirts with the picture of the python printed on them. I was told by my friend that the place had been featured in several TV shows. I am sure the owner of the python has good reasons but something was wrong with the whole picture.

I decided not to delete my old travel page about the biggest python in captivity. There is a big difference and I want to be reminded of such.

Directions: From Tagbilaran City going to Loboc, it is on the left side. After the Albur church, you can see the San Roque Elementary School and beside the school is the small road going to the "sanctuary".
