The Dove's Nest Restaurant is a tranquil place with a warm ochre wash on walls punctuated by garden scenes of idealized topiary trees, crowned with an old-fashioned tin ceiling and classic black and white squares on the floor.

Almost every table was filled when we were led to our seats. Massive hutches held multicolored ceramics, while a rustic looking terra cotta piece surrounded by dried flowers and vines made a nice showing at the front windows.

Our waitress suggested ordering the Texas Salad Medley, which included two choices of salad, fresh fruit and muffin for $7.95. Ummm, it was very good!

Other luncheon entrees were smoked turkey and red grape salad ($7.95), Texas Caesar salad with chicken ($7.95), chicken apricot salad ($7.50) and Southwest turkey sandwich ($7.00) just to name a few. We shared the chocolate bourbon pecan pie with vanilla ice cream--believe me, this was spectacular!

If you are taking a road trip and find yourself near Waxahachie, be sure to stop at the Dove's Nest restaurant and do some additional looking around at the gift/antique shop next door.

Favorite Dish: The bourbon pecan pie with vanilla ice cream--delectable!
