  Jewish Baths
by Sjalen

Close to the cathedral is Speyer's old Jewish quarters which today is one of the best preserved in Germany. The highlight of a visit here include the Jewish Baths, or Mikwe, from around 1110 which you can visit during the summer half of the year and which include old vaults and windows. There is also the ruins of the 12th century synagogue to see. It started off for men but in the 14th century, a womens' wing was added. The workmen building the synagogue were most likely the same as those busy with building Speyer cathedral.
