Entering the center courtyard of the Royal Castle, this imposing equestrian statue honors a 17th Century military commander who helped in liberating Hungary from the Ottoman Empire. French by birth and possibly an illegitimate son of Louis XIV, he became one of the Habsburg Empire's greatest generals and the defeat of the Turks one of his greatest triumphs.

Directions: On the top of Castle Hill (Varhegy). Funicular from Clark Adam ter (Buda bridgehead of the Chain Bridge), bus #16 from Deak F. ter, bus VAR from Moszkva ter. No cars allowed.
