Fondest memory: On my first trip in 1969, I visited my acre of potatoes at the homestead which is down the road a piece from the Elmira train station. The house had a hand-crank phone, no indoor plumbing, and the barn & blacksmith foundry was still complete. The closest town was Souris. It had no stop sign, Murphy's general store was a true 'one stop shop', and the Lighthouse at Eastpoint was manned. In 1979, the homestead had indoor plumbing and a rotary phone. Still no stop sign in town, and Murphy's was still open. I don't recall the Lighthouse on that trip. In 1999, the homestead was run down, the barns were gone, the Lighthouse was automatic, but Murphy's was still there, and still no stop sign in town. My acre still grows potatoes, as evidenced by the photo of my own family in front of our little piece of P.E.I.
