Delimara Point is the headland to the left of the Bay and its Fort Delimara was built by the British in 1881 to guard the entrance to Marsaxlokk Bay.

Two traditional Maltese towers, Benghisa Tower, the 7th tower in the series of towers constructed during the Grandmastership of Fra Martin de Redin, and Delimara Tower, on the other side of the bay, the 10th tower built by Grandmaster Fra Martin de Redin, used to be located at the entrance to Marsaxlokk Bay.

Both towers were demolished in the late 19th century.
