"Sant Salvador de Verdera Castle" La Selva Things to Do Tip by barbskie

La Selva Things to Do: 3 reviews and 5 photos

At the summit of Verdera mountains lies the remains of the old castle San Salvador(we were only almost half way up because of lack of time). Those who likes hiking, just follow the mountain path which starts next to the entrance door of the monastery(St Pere de Rodes). As my guide book says, the ruins has a military architecture of the 13th century with alternating square and semicircular towers along the walls. In the centre there is the remnants of the Romanesque church of Sant Salvador of the 11th century which had a domed portal situated at the steepy cliff over Emporada plain called"El Salt de Reina"(Queen's Leap". The view from the castle across a vast panorama of land and sea is breathtaking. Revisiting is still on our list and hoping to make the trail up to the summit.
