"Visit the Southern Forests" Geeveston Things to Do Tip by Sadieinoz
Geeveston Things to Do: 3 reviews and 2 photos
Forestry Tasmania maintains several lookouts, walking trails and picnic areas on the route to the Tahune Airwalk. These are well worth stopping off to see.
One I can recommend is the Arve River Picnic Ground. This is located on the Arve Road about 14kms from Geeveston . The Arve River runs beside the picnic area, there is some shelter and several out door picnic tables. The BBQ's are for wood fires so cannot be used on fire ban days. There are toilets nearby also.
The walk is a short one with a posted time of 10 minutes round trip. However although it is a well made path it does have a lot of steps so may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. It can also be slippery when wet.
You will walk into a little piece of temperate rain forest. There are huge ferns and enormous moss covered logs which look as if they have just had a chunk hewn out of them to allow for the path. I think that doing this walk will give a better appreciation of the forest and is like an appetiser for the Airwalk.
Address: Arve Road
Directions: The Arve Road is a right turn off the Huon Highway as you enter Geeveston. It is well signposted. It can also be reached from Church Street or from School Road. It is a sealed road but not wide; the road is not line marked at all once outside the town.
